Here’s the thing – I’m a chocolate snob, complete with the “I’m a dark chocolate person” tick. And I know you are, too. You know how I know? Only people who take their chocolate very seriously land on a page like this. A blog hosted by an obsessive Spanish chocoholic bent on converting the world to her chocoholic ways.

Hear me out, though. Most mochas out there are glorified chocolate milk. And not good chocolate milk. I request, beg really, for you to do me the honor of trying a homemade mocha. It doesn’t have to be this one, but if you will make any, I do recommend this one, if only for the sheer depth of flavor, richness, and of course because it’s one of the best you’ll ever try.

A mocha can be so much more. It can be extravagant, silky, and it does not have to be cloyingly sweet. I like my mochas along the same lines as my hot chocolate – deep, layered with flavors, and thick. I don’t really do particularly sweet drinks (though I’ve added a sweetness option here if that’s your style), but I more or less like my chocolate drinks to be exactly that – sipping chocolate.

Cinnamon, coffee, and chocolate are three flavors that were just made to be together. Give it a try – I think you will agree.

Deep Dark Cinnamon Mocha
Ingredients
Dark Chocolate Sauce (Makes 4 servings)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 Tbsp sweetened condensed milk *See notes for sweetness variation
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 stick cinnamon
- 100 g dark chocolate (I like Ghirardelli chips)
- 2 Tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
Deep Dark Cinnamon Mocha
- 1/4 Cup Dark Chocolate Sauce (above)
- 2 shots espresso
- 1/2-3/4 cup whole milk, steamed (or your milk alternative of choice)
- Whipped Cream (Optional)
- 1 pinch ground cinnamon
Instructions
Make Dark Chocolate Sauce
- To a small saucepan over medium low heat, add your heavy cream, condensed milk, ground cinnamon, and cinnamon stick. Stir until all the ingredients come together, and simmer for one minute.
- Add in your dark chocolate and cocoa powder, and stir constantly until the chocolate melts and the sauce comes together. Remove from heat and set aside.
- This sauce may be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for later use.
Assemble Deep Dark Cinnamon Mocha
- To a mug or coffee cup, add your dark chocolate sauce and espresso. Stir until combined. If you like your drink very hot, you can wam your dark chocolate sauce ahead of this step.
- Pour in your steamed milk. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon, if using.
- Enjoy!
